From November 21, 2025, to March 1, 2026, Barovier&Toso will take part in the third edition of Murano Illumina il Mondo, the initiative promoted by The Venice Glass Week and the City of Venice that transforms the Procuratie Vecchie in Piazza San Marco into an open-air gallery of light. For the occasion, the company presents the premiere of Profilo, the new suspension lamp designed by Art Director Luca Nichetto.

Profilo offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic chandelier silhouette. The composition is defined by centrifuged glass discs of varying diameters arranged around a central light element. The workmanship reveals a delicate spiral motif—an imprint of the centrifugal force shaping the glass, and a visible trace of the artisan’s gesture, crystallized in movement.

In Profilo, the artisan’s gesture becomes a visible narrative: the motion of molten glass is captured at the moment of its greatest expansion. Light spreads through the sequence of discs, intensifying their transparencies and reflections until it creates a radiant core that harmoniously connects every element. The result is a dynamic luminosity in which glass not only reflects light but becomes a source of light itself.

The art of glass between tradition and innovation

Within Murano Illumina il Mondo, Nichetto’s suspension lamp becomes a poetic sign that interprets the identity of Barovier&Toso and projects it into the future. An object that enters into dialogue with the architecture of Piazza San Marco, celebrating Murano as a place of culture, technique, and innovation.

The final result is suspended between art and technology: a suspension lamp that recalls the monumentality of ancient Murano creations, yet expresses itself through an essential, almost graphic language suited to the codes of contemporary interiors.

Murano illumina il mondo

The Murano Illumina il Mondo initiative was created to celebrate the vitality and contemporary relevance of Venetian glassmaking. Along the portico of the Procuratie Vecchie—from the Clock Tower to the Napoleonic Wing—a sequence of luminous works by international artists and designers transforms the Renaissance architecture into a sensory pathway.

In this context, the presence of Barovier&Toso takes on a symbolic value: founded in 1295, the company is among the oldest artisanal institutions still active in the world. Taking part in a project that illuminates the heart of Venice means, for Barovier&Toso, giving back to the city the light that has inspired it for centuries, reaffirming the centrality of Murano as a laboratory of experimentation and a place of culture.

  • In Profilo, il gesto dell’artigiano diventa racconto visibile: il movimento del vetro fuso è catturato nel suo istante di massima espansione.

Profilo. The tradition of Venetian glass meets the light of the future.

The installation of Profilo at Murano Illumina il Mondo is not merely Barovier&Toso’s participation in a prestigious event, but a poetic manifesto of the new direction embraced by the brand. The work conveys the image of a forward-looking Murano, unafraid of engaging with contemporaneity and, indeed, finding in that dialogue the opportunity to renew its identity.

Through light, Barovier&Toso expresses the continuity of a language that spans the centuries: a vocabulary made of transparencies, reflections, and ancestral gestures, capable of transforming matter into emotion. Like the rays that pass through Profilo’s discs, Barovier&Toso’s vision expands in concentric circles: from the heart of Murano to the world.
